LEAD Master's Student Receives Scholarship from A Step Ahead

MEMPHIS, Tenn. 鈥 Asia French, a master鈥檚 student in the College of Education鈥檚 Department of Leadership, got the news this month that she would be this year鈥檚 recipient for one of the A Step Ahead scholarships. She鈥檇 been waiting two months for the news and now feels the result is well worth the wait.

 

The scholarship is one of the general scholarships for the , this one being in partnership with Girls Inc. Memphis, in the amount of $2,000. Normally, these scholarships go to paying tuition, but French is currently a staff member at UofM. The university covers her tuition but not her books and material fees. French, as one can imagine, is now relieved to have those expenses covered.

 

鈥淭his scholarship means so much to me,鈥 she said. 鈥淩eceiving this scholarship will provide me with additional piece of mind and security to help cover my textbooks and additional college expenses. I鈥檓 very thankful and grateful for this opportunity.鈥

French is currently halfway through the Student Affairs Administration MS program and anticipates to graduate in December 2025.
