Telehealth and Teletherapy Resources
Due to the massive impact the novel coronavirus pandemic has had on our daily lives, more fields are now relying on remote service options such as telehealth and teletherapy. The School of Social Work offers these resources to our students, faculty, and community partners for ease of transition in to this relatively new model of service.
Tele-behavioral Health Research, Training, and Treatment Program
In June 2020, Dr. Susan Elswick received funding from the Urban Child Institute and ÁñÁ«Ö±²¥ Institute for Interdisciplinary Memphis Partnerships to Advance Community Transformation (iIMPACT) to develop a tele-behavioral health training and treatment program for the region due to the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health service delivery in the region. With this seed funding, Dr. Elswick launched the Tele-behavioral Health Research, Training, and Treatment program.
ÁñÁ«Ö±²¥ School of Social Work Tele-behavioral Health Research, Training, and Treatment Program aims to provide training on best practices in tele-behavioral health, develop opportunities to research the use of technology in practice, and provide direct services to the states most vulnerable populations.

School Mental Health Access to Resources through Telehealth (SMART)
Founded in June 2020 by Dr. Susan Elswick, the SMART Center provides a tele-behavioral health training and treatment program for the region to counteract the impacts that COVID-19 had on mental health service delivery here. The online clinic uses videoconferencing to provide evidence-based clinical interventions for children, youth and families across Tennesse.

Tennessee Telehealth Guidelines
In Tennessee, telehealth practice (the use of electronic information and telecommunications technologies to support and promote long-distance clinical health care, patient and professional health-related education, public health and health administration) is subject to the same standards as traditional practice. The social worker must comply with guidelines for the locations of the social worker and the client. The social worker must accurately represent themselves and practice within their competencies. Informed consent must be expanded to address additional risks of using technology.
