OTECP Announces Residency Winners for September 2024
October 15, 2024 鈥� The College of Education (COE) Office of Teacher Education and Clinical Practice (OTECP) is proud to announce the recipients of Student Teacher, Mentor Teacher, and Supervisor of the Month for September 2024: Micayla Scott, Molly Tosh, and Jennifer Bubrig.
Micayla Scott is a senior Instrumental Music Education major, currently student teaching at Elmore Park Middle School in Bartlett. In her nomination, Scott is described as 鈥渁n absolute delight to be around. Her peers, mentors, and students adore her.鈥� The native Memphian hopes to teach music in an elementary or middle school setting and perhaps give private lessons on flute and piccolo.
鈥淎s a student teacher, receiving this news honestly feels amazing,鈥� Scott said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 an incredible validation of the hard work and dedication I鈥檝e put into both my studies and my time in the classroom. I always try to give my best to my students, and knowing that it鈥檚 being recognized is such a rewarding feeling.
For Molly Tosh, a UT Martin graduate, she鈥檚 been teaching for five years, four of those in Jackson Madison County School System (JMCSS) at Thelma Barker Elementary School. Her nomination form reads that she 鈥済oes above and beyond in everything she does. It is truly an amazing thing to see students learn and grow and how fast they are doing so thanks to her.鈥�
鈥淚 am very honored to be chosen for this award,鈥� said Tosh. 鈥淭eaching is my passion, and my kids are my 鈥榳hy.鈥� I try every day not only to teach my students but also instill all the love and support I can give.鈥�
Within the COE, Jennifer Bubrig has been helping ensure both residency candidates and mentor teachers have the support they need to succeed in the yearlong placement and has been doing so for over a decade. She currently supervises three different cohorts at three different schools in both Memphis Shelby County Schools (MSCS) and Germantown Municipal School District (GMSD). Her nomination form read, in part, that she 鈥渋s someone who truly embodies what it means to go above and beyond for her students. This professor and supervisor is a beacon of dedication, always showing up with a smile, ready to meet every challenge head-on.鈥�
Bubrig said, 鈥淭his reaffirms my commitment to not only my residency candidates but to the role I play training the next generation of teachers. My job is, and has always been, for me, a privilege. I have witnessed firsthand the impact of powerful teacher education. The fuel that keeps my fire burning is no doubt the people that I serve.鈥�
