International Transfer Credits

At the University of Memphis, we proudly accept international credits from a variety of sources. Whether you're transferring from universities outside the US, have completed A/AS level or IB exams, or are a current student studying abroad, we are here to support your academic journey. We understand that navigating credit transfers can be challenging. If you don't see your international credits listed within our transfer resource tools, don't worry! Our dedicated team will work closely with you to ensure your credits are evaluated and applied appropriately. Below are the specific processes for transferring credits to the University of Memphis:

Transfer Credit Process

Transfer Evaluation System (TES)

TES, the Transfer Evaluation System, is an all-in-one transfer credit evaluation system that allows students and staff to view previously approved transfer credit from domestic and international institutions. The list of courses in TES is not comprehensive; is continually updated. If you do not see your school or course listed, please reach out to the Office of Admissions.

How to Use the Transfer Equivalency System

  1. Search for Your School: Type the name of the school you are transferring credits from.
    • You may see your school listed twice; for example, Florence University of the Arts and Florence University of the Arts - UofM Added. Be sure to check both listings for course evaluations.
  2. Select Your School: Click on the school you are transferring courses from.
  3. View Equivalency: The original course will appear with the UofM equivalent (if it is in our system). If an equivalency does not appear, notify the Office of Admissions.

International Credit Conversion

All approved international transfer credits and grades will be converted to UofM credits/grades based on conversion scales provided by the credential evaluation vendor for transfer students or by the host institution or provider for Education Abroad students. Students transferring credits should know that not all international credit values are a one-to-one equivalent to UofM's credit value. See the example below. Courses that fall below 3 UofM credit hours will be processed as general elective credits.

Example of European credit conversion:
  • 1 ECTS = .5 US credits /  6 ECTS = 3 UofM Credits
    • To be full-time using ECTS system, a student would need to take 24 ECTS to equal 12 UofM credit hours.

Foreign Language Credits

Foreign language credits will be calculated and approved by the World Languages Department. The number of credits awarded for language courses may vary from non-language courses due to additional experiential learning opportunities in a foreign country. The World Languages Department also offers additional opportunities for students to receive credit for their language skills. CLICK HERE to find out more information.

Transfer Equivalency Disclaimer

Our equivalency resources contain lists of courses that have been transferred by other students from a growing list of colleges and universities to the University of Memphis. These transfer equivalency resources are not official credit evaluations but serve as valuable guides to understanding what credit evaluation you will likely receive when you transfer credits to UofM. You must still meet with an academic advisor to determine how any transfer credits will be applied to your degree requirements.
