Status
Federal regulations require that all current F-1 students maintain status throughout the duration of their course of study, while inside the U.S. It is your responsibility to know the rules and regulations for maintaining your status as an F-1 student. Failure to comply with F-1 regulations may result in the termination of your F-1 status and loss of future eligibility to enter the U.S. Below is information on what you need to do to maintain your status as an F-1 student.
Staying in Status
- Maintain a valid passport; you must renew 6 months prior to its expiration date
- Attend the school specifically authorized on your current I-20
- Maintain a full course of study and make normal academic progress toward completion of your degree program
- Notify any change in data to Intensive English for Internationals
- Notify the Intensive English for Internationals office of your U.S. address within 10 days of moving
- File timely extension, transfer, or change of status requests
- Notify Intensive English for Internationals of any new visa status of pending Permanent Residence Application
- Follow regulations on employment
- Obey state and federal laws
- Depart from the US in a timely manner, within 60 days following graduation, or within 30 days following withdrawal from the program without graduation
- Notify the Intensive English for Internationals office if you leave the US to skip a semester, withdrawing during the semester, or if you are leaving the program permanently
