We will approach all theories by checking them in relation to our own personal and diverse life experiences. We will consider, too, some of the philosophical underpinnings of our own thought processes as well as what may be driving some of the formal theories examined in class. Ultimately, this course is rooted in compassionate concern for the health of our own relationships with others, and by extension, our concern for the human community in general. In-Class Communication: Because we will be talking about personal matters, relationships and experiences in class, we need to be respectful of the need and desire for others to express themselves however they feel comfortable, which means keeping our interruptions to a bare minimum, maintaining respectful silence for thoughtful listening, and keeping all cell phones off during class meeting times.
